Israel celebrates it’s 65th Anniversary today. In the space of a remarkably small amount of time, Israel has experienced many significant challenges. We recall  that it was the Israel labor Party that provided the country with it’s founding fathers and mothers; David Ben Gurion, Golda Meir, Itzchak Rabin, and Shimon Peres just to name a few. Labor saw the building of a new Israel as an egalitarian society, founded on the principles of equal opportunity for all, and devoted to building the land through it’s agricultural arm – the Kibbutz movement. It absorbed hundreds of thousands of refugees from many different lands, and provided them with jobs, health cover and insurance  through it’s industrial arm – the Histadrut.

After the famous military victory of 1967, it was the then Labor Government that offered to withdraw from the West Bank of the Jordan River in return for peace with the surrounding Arab Nations. Peace is still elusive, and we hope that this 65th Anniversary signals a new opportunity for peace for both Israelis and Palestinians
