Hilik Bar, International Secretary, Israel Labor Party

Hilik Bar is the International Secretary of the Israeli Labor Party. Formerly, he was General Secretary of the Israeli Labor Party, the youngest person to serve in the position since the establishment of the Party.

Hilik served as a member of the Knesset between January 2013 and April 2019. Whilst an MK, Hilik was a Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and chaired the Knesset caucus to resolve the Arab – Israeli conflict.

During his first visit to Australia in September 2014, Hilik meet with ALP leaders including Bill Shorten, Tanya Plibersek, John Robertson, Daniel Andrews, and Mark McGowan, plus numerous ALP MPs and rank and file members.

Michael Borowick, National Convenor, AILD

Michael is a Life Member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). A committed unionist, Michael was a full-time union official for twenty-eight years. He served as an Assistant Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, Australia’s peak union council between November 2010 and November 2018.

Michael has led several missions of Australian trade union leaders to the Middle East to meet with Palestinian and Israeli counterparts.

Adam Slonim, National Convenor, AILD

Adam Slonim is a Director and active participant in a number of Australian companies involved in Corporate Strategy, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership & Sales Capability Development, gamified learning simulations and artificial intelligence.. He has also participated on Trade Missions to Israel.

Adam has also worked on the Board of a number of local Not-For- Profit organisations. Adam continues his family’s long association with the ALP, and is a life-long member of the Party.

Eran Hermoni, Secretary General, Israel Labor Party

Eran Hermoni is the Secretary General of the Israeli Labor Party, having been elected to that position in February 2017.  Eran visited Australia in February 2018 for a meeting of the International Progressive Campaign Forum, of which the Israeli Labor Party is a member.

Eran is committed to developing the historical ties between the Israeli Labor Party and the Australian Labor Party.

Benjamin Maxfield, Director, AILD

Following a role as an advisor in the Gillard Labor Government, Benjamin worked as a senior policy and campaigns officer at the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), where he lead efforts to achieve reforms in occupational health and safety regulation and practice. Benjamin has also held senior roles in a number of large and complex organisations including the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority, NBN Co and Incolink.

Benjamin has a keen interest in defence and foreign policy. In recent times, Benjamin has worked with Social Democratic parties and organisations around the world to improve their electoral standing and human rights record. Benjamin, who has visited Israel several times, is a member of the International Party Development Committee (IPDC) of the Australian Labor Party National Executive. The IPDC oversees the work of Australian Labor International.

Greg Holland, Director, AILD

Greg is a Director of the AILD.  He has been a member of the ALP since 1980 and has represented the Party as a candidate for Parliament on three occasions.

Greg has a lifelong interest in Israel and Palestine, its history, people and culture.  He first travelled to the Middle East privately, visiting Israel, Palestine, Egypt and Jordan in 2008.  Greg then returned to Israel and Palestine as a member of the inaugural AILD Mission for senior Labor Party members in 2014.

Greg established his own public affairs and government relations consultancy in 1997, having worked in the international telecommunications sector.   Prior to this Greg  was a Cabinet Ministerial adviser in the Hawke and Keating Governments.
