The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, M.P., announced today that he had sent messages to the new Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Rabin and to the outgoing Prime Minister, Mrs. Meir.
In his message to Mrs. Meir the Prime Minister praised her for her leadership of Israel during a difficult period of its history and in particular for the negotiation of disengagement agreements with Egypt and Syria.
In his message of congratulations to Mr. Rabin, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that the disengagement agreements would lead to a just and lasting peace.
