Resolution on Israel & Gaza
This Conference expresses its horror at the devastation and loss of human life that has occurred in Gaza, and the disregard for international law.
This Conference welcomes the decision of the Federal Labor government to recognise Palestine and join with other nations to push for an enduring and immediate ceasefire.
This Conference welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire and the release of hostages and political prisoners as a much needed step towards peace.
Despite the ceasefire, reports of aid and essential services to Gaza being blocked by the Netanyahu Government, civilians being killed and thousands remaining in arbitrary detention in military prisons continue.
This Conference calls on the Federal Labor Government to:
- Practically support the safe and unimpeded delivery of essential supplies, aid and humanitarian services including mobile hospitals and medical evacuations by UN agencies and independent civil organisations.
- Reaffirm UNRWA’s mandate by the as the principal agency to deliver humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees.
- Increase aid funding for organisations on the ground.
- Expand sanctions and other measures to individuals and organisations who have and continue to violate international law.
- Ensure there is no role for Hamas in the future governance of Gaza.
- Implement existing processes that ensure overseas Australian involved did not participate in violations of international humanitarian law.
